Sit still look pretty…

Sit still look pretty…

The year is 2016, we live a global  village, information is at our fingers tips, people have been to the moon and back, technology is the norm to an extent where the possibilities of innovation are end less.. . Yet my being an intelligent, confident, self aware, assertive beautiful woman is for some people still unfathomable.

Apparently its a mystery  how a girl  can do well  in school, in some instances  even better than the boys in her class.

How the same girl grows into a smart woman who  excells at work relying only on her brains and not her long legs or pretty face.

Im still shocked that half of America,  would rather vote in a candidate who unapologetically showed his ugly true  colours over a capable woman. Granted she had made some mistakes in the past, but dnt we all? !

My daughter excells at everything she does, like so many little girls her age. Girls are taking centre stage both in academics and extra curriculum activities… And i intend to continue encouraging and supporting her to do even better.

I refuse to dumb myself down to stroke anyones ego. I refuse to tell my little girl she cnt do something she’s interested in because its supposed to be a preserve for boys..

Don’t get me wrong,  was i raising a boy, I would teach him the same values and expose him to the same opportunities. Most of all teach him to respect others abilities and not to judge them based on their gender , race,  religion, political affiliation or other demographic features.

I am capable of too much to just sit and look pretty! Our daughters’, our sisters, our mothers are capable of too  much to just sit and look pretty.

……….. ….. my two cents. .. … …

Peace, Love and Unity!

Peace, Love and Unity!

It was a tough weekend for my country as we have yet again been attacked by the heartless monster called terrorism.

This time they struck at a Kenya Defence Forces camp in Somalia injuring soldiers and even taking hostages.

The entire country is standing together, praying for the safe retrieval of these brave men and women,as well the quick recovery of those injured during the attack.

They sacrifice themselves to protect us and defend our country from these extremists killing innocent people in the name of religion and this is our way to show them that we do not take this for granted.

When writing this post I remembered something our Pastor said yesterday about being a christian first before all else.
Kenyans have time and time again proven that they will always stand together in times of tragedy and this is no different.

We are Kenyans first before any religion..
We are Kenyans first before our many diverse tribes…
We are Kenyans first before any political affiliations…
And we will over come this too, just like we did when they attacked the West Gate Mall and the Garissa University.
…….. God Bless Kenya….

Me, myself and I

Me, myself and I

And my resolution for 2016 is…… Wait for it…. Looking out for ME!Women are genetically predisposed to caring for others, mothering so to speak.
Its a great trait and it certainly makes the world go round, yes team women run the world!
However, we sometimes get so caught up taking care of everyone that we forget ourselves.
So I’m going to defy nature and look out for myself more. I’ll still carry out my responsibilities but I’ll make sure I’m taken care of too.
That means more me days to just read a book, have a glass of wine, go to the salon, meet a friend for coffee, buy myself something just because i can and most importantly not feel guilty about any of it.

They say you cannot show love or give love to others when you haven’t loved yourself first. Its time I put that into action!

The year i learnt to trust…

The year i learnt to trust…

Do you believe in zodiac signs, are they usually accurate? Mine is pretty much on point.
Am a virgo and it describes me almost to a T. Virgos are said to be witty, well spoken, intelligent, practical analytical, reliable, sometimes over critical and judgemental , not easily pleased and more often than not call a spade a spade.
That’s me in a nut shell, I like things a certain way, organized and planned. So imagine my shock when 2015 decided to throw all my plans up in the air.

One of my resolutions for 2015 was improving my relationship with God. In my mind that was something I was going to do from my comfort zone.
Shock on me, the year had other ideas in mind. I learnt that I couldn’t control all situations, no matter how well i had planned them.
Its been a tough year with many ups and downs but I made it. God has seen me through and all I had to do was trust in Him completely.

This year I also learnt to let go of the reigns a bit and let the people in my life take charge. And not only that but to believe that they have my best interests at heart.

Im looking forward to 2016 because I know He has even better and bigger plans for me. I also cant wait to experience life through other peoples eyes and not just from my carefully picked lens.

Happy 2016 to you all, may your dreams and aspirations become a reality.
